Thomasville standoff suspect taken into custody

THOMASVILLE, N.C. -- The Thomasville Police Department has arrested a man that barricaded himself inside his home at 324 Walker Street.

William Christopher Upright has been charged with first-degree burglary. More charges are expected to come.

At 2:53 a.m. Wednesday morning, the Thomasville police were called in reference to a breaking and entering at 304 Walker Street involving the man.

When police arrived on the scene, the suspect was locked inside his house. He was said to have stolen guns, knives and swords in his possession.

A woman was also located in Upright's home when he was barricaded, but she is unharmed and the police are investigating if she has any involvement.

But at about 7:20 a.m., the suspect came out of the house with his hands up. He is currently police custody.

The Thomasville Police Department and Thomasville Swat Team were both on the scene.

The investigation is ongoing.
