RANDLEMAN, N.C. -- More than 70 boats and nearly 100 wounded warriors and disabled veterans spent the day fishing on Randleman Lake in the Operation North State Top Shelf Fishing Festival.

It was second annual event at Randleman Lake among its series of seven fishing festivals.

It is considered by many better therapy than any doctor could prescribe, bringing together people with a common interest and the pursuit of a day of leisure.

Many in the group get to be friends and spend time together away from this event.

That’s something event organizer Terry Snyder is proud to see happen.

“It’s the one thing they need they need friendships, they need a comfort level that’ll pull them out of the house,” Snyder said.

There were plenty of fish to be caught but even when the big ones got away, there was still room for a smile.
