WOODSON TERRACE, Mo. — A man is facing charges for his alleged involvement in wrong way crash that caused a pregnant woman to lose her unborn baby.

Jimmie Smith is charged with assault, resisting arrest, leaving the scene of an accident and child endangerment.

Police say a Woodson Terrace officer tried to pull over Smith in April when he didn’t have his headlights on. Smith allegedly refused to pull over and drove east on I-70 and exited off at Bircher Avenue.

Smith then got back on the highway and drove the wrong way, police say, before crashing into a car. Police believe Smith then ran and disappeared over a fence.

Two juveniles and a pregnant woman were inside the car Smith was driving. Police say the pregnant woman lost the unborn child as a result. The juveniles were injured. The driver of the other car involved with the crash suffered a broken collar bone.
