GASTON COUNTY, N.C. – A North Carolina high school student has been arrested after authorities said he assaulted a school resource officer.

WCNC reported that Wesley Ray Hardin, 17, was arrested Wednesday and faces charges of assault on a government official and disorderly conduct.

The suspect is accused of acting disorderly in his classroom at East Gaston High School. Police said he was removed from class and placed in a room for his parents to pick him up.

The suspect then allegedly tried leaving campus and a school resource officer confronted him.

Police said Hardin kicked the officer in the leg and later head-butted the rear-window of a patrol vehicle. He was booked in jail after being treated and released from a hospital.
