THOMASVILLE, N.C. — A State Highway Patrol trooper was involved in a crash Sunday night.

The collision happened at about 7 p.m. at the intersection of NC 109 at Liberty Drive (State Road 2055) in Thomasville.

According to a preliminary investigation, the trooper was traveling west on Liberty with emergency equipment activated, in route to assist a fellow trooper with someone that was attempting to elude arrest.

The trooper stopped at the intersection and began crossing NC 109 when he was struck in the right passenger door by a Mazda CX7 that was traveling south on NC 109.  After impact, the patrol vehicle traveled over a curb, down an embankment, and struck a tree.

The Mazda CX7 came to rest in the eastbound travel lane of Liberty drive facing north.

The trooper refused medical treatment.  The driver of the Mazda CX7 was taken to Thomasville Medical Center with minor injuries and was released a short time later.
