CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Carowinds' Carolina Harbor Waterpark opens full time for the season Saturday.

During the off season, Carowinds expanded their existing waterpark, doubling the overall size to 27 acres.  It’s now the largest waterpark in the state.

New features include a second, bigger wave pool, upscale cabanas, a new bathhouse, as well as new coastal cuisine in the restaurants.  There are also water attractions for all ages.

A 2-acre kids park offers several water playgrounds.

Thrill seekers will find new water slides in the Black Beard’s Revenge complex.  Pirate’s Plank is a six-story high slide where you begin standing up, and then the floor drops from beneath you.   Shannon Smith tried out the slide before the park opened completely to the public.   You can take a look at the 10-second thrill ride here.
