Father, son die after jet ski hits fishing pier off North Carolina coast

SUNSET BEACH, N.C. — A father and son have died after hitting a fishing pier while riding a jet ski off the North Carolina coast.

WECT reported that it happened Friday on Sunset Beach at the Wildlife Resource Commission Boat Ramp.

The incident prompted the pier to be closed until further notice, according to authorities. The names of the victims have not been released.

Authorities said the mother and daughter of the family were on another jet ski in the area during the incident. Both sustained minor injuries.

The cause of the crash has not been released. The investigation is ongoing and no other details were immediately available.
