GREENSBORO, N.C. --- Middle College at Bennett graduate Jessica Crenshaw said she’s learned how strong she can be, completing high school while recovering from cancer.
Crenshaw was diagnosed with thyroid cancer in June of 2015 at only 17 years old.
She was placed on a strict iodine diet to prepare for radioactive treatment.
“I was cleared and then it came back, had to do another radioactive pill but, this time, I didn’t have to be isolated so I was happy about that and now I’m cancer free,” Crenshaw said.
Crenshaw only missed a week of school throughout the year, maintained good grades and recognized with a Service–Learning Exemplary award from Guilford County Schools.
“I made sure that I didn’t let just because I had cancer and I’m going through treatments , I made sure that’s not something that’s going to be a burden on me,” Crenshaw said. “It was a journey I had my ups and downs but I made it!”
Crenshaw will attend Guilford College in the fall.
