BEAUFORT, S.C. – Firefighters in South Carolina have removed a 3-foot-long alligator from a YMCA swimming pool.

The Beaufort Gazette reported that firefighters found the alligator lounging in the deep end of the pool. Nobody was in the pool at the time.

Firefighters used a lifeguard rescue hook to bring the alligator to the surface, according to a Facebook post by the City of Beaufort.

“Firefighters then used a piece of rope to secure the alligator until Mr. Boatwright from Tracks Wildlife arrived on scene to properly secure the alligators head and mouth,” the post read.

The alligator was safely removed from the pool and released into a neighboring estuary. Nobody was hurt.
