Man hit by train in Burlington

BURLINGTON, N.C. — A 51-year-old man was struck by a train Monday night.

At 8:04 p.m., Burlington Police Department, Burlington Fire Department and Alamance County EMS were called to the railroad crossing located on Lakeview Drive in Burlington in reference to a pedestrian being struck by a train, according to a news release.

Upon arrival officers located Sammy Jenkins and Jeff Jenkins, 45, alongside the railroad tracks.

Sammy Jenkins was suffering from an injury to his left arm that occurred when he was struck by a Norfolk Southern cargo train.  Sammy Jenkins was taken to UNC Chapel Hill Hospital by Alamance County EMS for treatment and was listed in stable condition at the time of this release.

Norfolk Southern Railroad Police were contacted and are continuing the investigation.  Railroad traffic was ceased for approximately one-and-a-half hours.
