Several flooding rescues in Winston-Salem after heavy rains

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Winston-Salem firefighters had to rescue eight people in three separate incidents due to flooding on Thursday night.

This comes after there was heavy rainfall and hail as a result of evening storms.

Reports of flooding rescue calls came in on the following streets:

  • S. Main at Waughtown: people were rescued from a vehicle stalled in high water.
  • S. Hawthorne Road and Lockland Avenue: people rescued from a vehicle stalled in high water
  • NW Hawthorne Road and NW Glade Street: two people trapped under a bridge by high water.

First responders say the people rescued are okay.

There was also flooding on Business 40 near Cloverdale and also reports of downed trees.
