MCDOWELL COUNTY, N.C. — A North Carolina couple is facing charges after their children tested positive for methamphetamine and marijuana, according to WLOS.

Elisha Presnell, 34, and Kenneth Presnell, 31, face charges for contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Detectives told WLOS that the couple’s 9-year-old and 1-year-old boys tested positive for the drugs.

McDowell County Sherrif’s spokesperson, Richelle Bailey, said a report from the Department of Social Services led investigators to test the boys for drugs.

Bailey said this isn’t the first time young children in the county have tested positive for methamphetamine.

Many say the misdemeanor charge doesn’t match the crime.

“These are only misdemeanor charges because there’s not a law that allows them to be charged with a felony, you know, and people do get irate about that and they have every reason to,” Bailey told WLOS.
