Man hospitalized with life-threatening injuries after shooting in Winston-Salem

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — A man is in the hospital with life-threatening injuries after a shooting in Winston-Salem.

Officers with the Winston-Salem Police Department responded to the 1400 block of North East 23rd Street at approximately 4:23 a.m. after receiving reports of a shooting.

Shortly after officers arrived on the scene, 28-year-old Emanuel Tyshawn Coker IV arrived at Baptist Medical Center in a private vehicle. Coker was suffering from a gunshot wound and his injuries are considered life-threatening, according to a release.

A preliminary investigation indicates that the shooting happened on 23rd Street.

Police are asking witnesses to come forward at this time.
