KENLY, N.C. — A North Carolina firefighter died from a heart attack after helping at a wreck Saturday evening, according to WTVD.

John Morris Davis Jr. of the Kenly Fire Department responded to the incident just after 7 p.m. where a vehicle flipped over and crashed into a pole.

Crews had to work for some time to get the man out of the overturned vehicle.

Officials say Davis experienced chest pains and was taken to the hospital where he later died.

“He loved this department. He loved what he did. And he gave his life to help someone else,” said Tim Little with the Kenly Fire Department.

He is survived by his wife and three children.

“He gave to his community every day, and he responded to many calls, day or night” Little said. “Anything he was asked to do, he did it for the community.”
