Tornado touches ground in North Carolina

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, N.C. – A tornado touched ground in northern New Hanover County on Thursday afternoon, according to WECT.

The EF1 tornado had winds as high as 90 mph and touched down at about 2:20 p.m., according to the National Weather Service in Wilmington.

There were downed trees and power lines. One injury was reported as a woman was hit by a falling tree limb, according to the StarNews of Wilmington.

Nearly 800 people in the area lost power earlier today.
