Lexington man accused of repeatedly stealing from same hardware store
DAVIDSON COUNTY, N.C. — A Lexington man is facing charges in connection with a series thefts at a hardware store in Davidson County.
Casey Ryan Hinson, 29, of Canvas Back Dr., was charged with two counts each of first-degree trespassing and felony larceny.
Hinson is suspected stealing from the ACE Hardware, located at 8201 N. N.C. Highway 150, on two different occasions, according to Detective B. M. Smith with the Davidson County Sheriff’s Office.
The first break-in was reported on March 29. Employees told deputies that the thief had entered their fenced-in area while the business was closed and took a push mower, pressure washer, leaf blower, weed eater, hedge trimmer and several chain saws. The total value of the stolen items was estimated to be $2,150.
Then, on April 25, investigators say Hinson broke in again and stole a lawn mower seat, a tiller and three pressure washers. Those items were valued at $1,600.
Detectives used surveillance video to identify Hinson as a suspect in the case. He was arrested on May 1.
Authorities say Hinson was previously charged with breaking and entering, larceny after breaking and entering, injury to personal property, possession of burglary tools, and failure to heed light and siren, stemming from an incident on June 23, 2015. According to deputies, he targeted the same ACE Hardware in that incident as well.
Hinson is being held in the Davidson County Jail under a $15,000 secured bond. He is scheduled to appear in court on June 14.
