Person killed in small plane crash in Union County

UNION COUNTY, N.C. — Emergency crews responded to a fatal small plane crash on Friday afternoon in Union County.

The crash happened near 4000 Poplin Road between Indian Trail and Monroe, according to WSOC. It was reported at 4:08 p.m.

The plane could be seen just outside a wooded area near a mobile home, according to WBTV. It appeared to have caught fire at some point, as the area immediately around the plane was burned.

The identity of the person killed in the crash has not been released.

No other details about what caused the crash, or the departure and destination locations, have been released.
