‘Purple Rain’ movie to return to Greensboro theater, other NC locations

GREENSBORO, N.C. — The movie “Purple Rain,” which lifted Prince to international stardom in the 1980s, is returning to theaters around the country this weekend.

Variety.com reported that the 1984 romantic musical drama is coming to 87 AMC locations and 80 Carmike Theaters locations.

Carmike 18 at 4822 Koger Blvd. in Greensboro will show the movie at 4, 7 and 9:30 p.m. Saturday. On Sunday, the theater will play the movie at 1, 4, 7 and 9:30 p.m.

It also will be shown throughout most of next week. Check Carmike Cinemas’ website for a full listing of times.

The award-winning movie focuses on a Minneapolis musician on the rise with his band, the Revolution, escaping a tumultuous home life through music.

Prince, an innovative and hugely-popular pop musician, died Thursday in Chanhassen, Minnesota at the age of 57. Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding his death.
