CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police shot and killed a man during a standoff at a Charlotte convenience store Tuesday morning, according to WSOC.

Officers with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department and SWAT members responded to the 7-Eleven on Little Rock Road around 3 a.m.

At first, officers said it was unclear whether the armed man was suicidal or trying to rob the store.

Police repeatedly tried to talk to the man, who was on top of a vehicle outside the store wearing what appeared to be a bullet-proof vest. Officers shot the man when he raised a gun during the negotiations.

The man was rushed to the hopsital with serious injuries just before 6 a.m., but died on the way to the hospital.

According to WSOC, the intersection of Tuckaseegee and Little Rock roads was blocked for several hours while police conducted an investigation.
