DAVIDSON COUNTY, N.C. -- Two dead bodies were found in a vehicle on the side of the road in Davidson County Friday morning. Authorities say the men had both been shot.

A call came in around 5:52 a.m. about a suspicious vehicle on Highway 64 westbound and Virgil Wyatt Road.

The two victims are men in their 20s.

Davidson County Sheriff David Grice said the old Crown Victoria police car the men were found in traveled about 900 feet after it left the roadway.

Witnesses say the vehicle crashed into a shed-like structure and police had to pull it out.

Grice said this is now being investigated as a homicide. He added that they don't believe the men died from the crash.

"The car was very much in motion. I don't know if someone shot them during the ride or after the ride," Grice said.

At this point, Grice said they don't think this incident is connected to any other ongoing crime.
