GREENSBORO, N.C. — North Carolina State Highway Patrol is investigating a fatal wreck on Interstate 40 westbound in Greensboro.

The two-vehicle wreck happened around 6 a.m. near McConnell Road.

According to Highway Patrol Master Trooper Chris Knox, a tractor-trailer driver had pulled onto the side of I-40 because of a flat tire. After the tire was fixed by a roadside company, the driver proceeded to sleep in his truck.

Knox said a woman driving a Ford Mustang ran off the road, striking the back of the truck.

The female driver, whose name has not been released, was killed in the wreck. Knox said it appears the woman was not wearing her seatbelt.
