ROCK HILL, S.C. – A 20-year-old man who was handling a gun accidentally shot and killed a 17-year-old boy in South Carolina, according to authorities.

The Rock Hill Herald reported that Robreece Pickett has been charged with involuntary manslaughter in the accidental shooting death of Ja’Terreon Thorne.

Officers reportedly found the teenager dead in the front yard of a home in Rock Hill shortly before 10 p.m. Saturday.

The victim’s father, 41-year-old Terrence Thorne, said his son was shot in the chest and a neighbor called an ambulance. He said he does not know where the gun came from.

“Kids were playing with a gun and it went off and hit my son,” Thorne said, according to the paper.

The suspect’s was jailed under an $115,000 bond.

“He was an outgoing person,” said Breanna Roberts, the victim’s cousin. “He was a funny person. I loved him so much.”
