Man accused of stealing two trucks, shooting at NC deputies, crashing into pond

OXFORD, N.C. — A man is accused of stealing two trucks, shooting at North Carolina deputies during a chase and then crashing into a pond.

WNCN reported that Robert Edward Zimmerman faces numerous charges after the incident Saturday morning in the Granville County city of Oxford.

Authorities said it happened after the suspect tried breaking into a home. A neighbor reportedly witnessed the incident and followed the suspect in his vehicle.

The suspect allegedly shot at both the neighbor and a deputy who later tried pulling him over.

During the chase, the suspect reportedly went down a dirt road and crashed into a creek. Authorities said he then ran into a nearby home, held the resident at gunpoint and stole a truck from that home.

The chase continued and the suspect is accused of firing at deputies. They returned fire and the suspect was shot and injured.

Despite being shot, the suspect is accused of stealing another truck and then crashing that one into a pond.

The suspect faces numerous charges. No deputies were injured.
