Teacher allegedly locks student with special needs in school bathroom
COWETA COUNTY, Ga. — A teacher has been fired after being accused of abusing a student with special needs.
According to the Newnan Times-Herald, the incident allegedly happened between March 4-7 on the campus of Welch Elementary School.
Tyffany Bonilla is accused of locking the student in a bathroom and turning off the lights. Bonilla allegedly told the student that monsters were going to get her.
Bonilla was a paraprofessional at the school. A paraprofessional is a person who is trained to assist but is not actually licensed to practice as a fully qualified professional.
The Newnan Times-Herald also reports the 4-year-old girl’s father says his daughter has been having nightmares and began wetting the bed as a result of the incident.
Bonilla was fired on Monday. It is unclear if she’ll face charges.
