DAVIE COUNTY, N.C. -- Two separate accidents slowed traffic along Interstate 40 near Mocksville on Thursday afternoon.

One of the crashes closed lanes in both directions at Exit 170 (Yadkinville Road) and the other closed lanes in both directions near mile marker 172.

All lanes of I-40 West and one lane of I-40 East have reopened, according to the NCDOT as of 4:45 p.m. One lane of I-40 East remains closed due to guardrail repairs. That lane is expected to be reopened at about 11 p.m.

One of the wrecks involved a box truck and the second involved two passenger cars, according to North Carolina Highway Patrol.

The first accident was dispatched at 1:58 p.m.

The crash damaged a bridge rail and guardrail and ruptured fuel tanks. HAZMAT crews assisted with the cleanup.
