Charges filed in fatal head-on collision in Winston-Salem

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — A man has been charged following a fatal head-on collision in Winston-Salem last month, according to Winston-Salem police.

Jerome Stanley Redford Jr., 50, of Winston-Salem, was charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle on Thursday.

The accident happened on Feb. 19 at 5:16 p.m. at University Parkway and Cherry Street.

According to a news release from Winston-Salem police, a 1997 Mercedes-Benz E420 made a left turn onto Cherry Street from southbound University Parkway into the path of a 2013 Ford Fusion. The vehicles collided in the northbound lanes of University Parkway at Cherry Street.

The driver of the Mercedes-Benz, identified as 85-year-old Hawthorne Page, of Winston-Salem, died at the scene as a result of injuries sustained in the wreck.
