WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Officers with the Winston-Salem Police Department have made an arrest in connection with Tuesday night’s carjacking at JB’s Grocery.

William Edward Patterson, 24, was arrested Wednesday after a brief police chase. Patterson was charged with felony eluding arrest with a motor vehicle, possession of a stolen motor vehicle, possession of a firearm by a felon, carrying a concealed gun and driving with a revoked license.

On Tuesday, police were called to JB’s Grocery, located at 4815 Old Rural Hall Road, in reference to an armed robbery just before 10 p.m.

The female victim told officers a man approached her vehicle and pulled out a firearm before telling her to open her door.

She and another passenger exited the vehicle and the suspect drove off in her car.

Officers found the stolen vehicle on Highway 52 northbound and Akron Drive Wednesday. Patterson is accused of leading officers on a brief chase, which ended at Patterson and Indiana avenues.

Patterson is being held in the Forsyth County Law Enforcement Detention Facility under a $40,000 secured bond.
