GREENSBORO, N.C. — Multiple people were transported to the hospital following a wreck on Interstate 85 North at Groometown Road, according to Highway Patrol Trooper Chris Knox.

Knox said at 1:41 p.m., troopers were notified of a box spring lying in the middle lane of the roadway.

By the time the first trooper arrived on the scene, a number of collisions had occurred as drivers tried to avoid the box spring, Knox said. Seven vehicles, including a tractor-trailer, were involved.

Multiple victims were transported by Guilford County EMS, Knox said, adding that none of the injuries appeared to be life-threatening.

Multiple lanes were closed for about three hours and have since reopened, according to the NCDOT.
