Burlington man scares off burglar by firing gunshots

BURLINGTON, N.C. – A man allegedly tried breaking into a Burlington home, but ran off after somebody at the home started shooting at him with a shotgun.

Burlington police said they were called to the area of Hampton Court, Kennedy Court and Montclair Drive shortly after 4:30 a.m. Saturday in reference to shots being fired.

Officers responding to the scene said a 22-year-old man told them somebody had tried to break into his home on Hampton Court.

The victim said he got his shotgun and came out into the front yard where he encountered the suspect. Shots were fired and the suspect ran off, according to police.

The suspect allegedly ran down the dead end of Hampton Court and then changed direction toward Montclair Drive.

He has been described as a 6’3” male of unknown race weighing 230 pounds, wearing a grey hooded sweatshirt and jeans.

A projectile from a gunshot hit a nearby residence, but nobody was hurt, according to police.
