Ziggy’s in Winston-Salem to close on Sunday night
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Countless musicians and music fans have passed through the doors and danced on the beer-stained floors of Ziggy’s, a nightclub that was born on Deacon Boulevard in the 1970s and will breathe its last breath Sunday night on Ninth Street, according to the Winston-Salem Journal.
The last call at Winston-Salem’s biggest and busiest music venue will be a benefit at 3 p.m. Sunday for the family of the late Ibrahim Myers. The bill will include music by The Malamondos, wolves & wolves & wolves & wolves, Uzzard and 1970s Film Stock.
In November, Charles Womack, one of the three co-owners of Ziggy’s Winston Inc., announced that Ziggy’s would close at the end of February when the current lease runs out. Building owners Hank Perkins and Drew Gerstmyer of 9th Street Properties decided not to renew the lease.
“We offered to pay them a year in advance, and they said no,” Womack said.
