JOHNSTON COUNTY, N.C. — Four bicyclists were injured after being hit by a car and thrown from their bikes Saturday afternoon in Johnston County.

WRAL reported that Christopher Graham, 34, Joel Arthur Lawrence, 57, Lynn Lashley, 57, and Michael Dayton, 60, were all involved in the incident.

Lashley and Dayton were listed in critical condition and Graham and Lawrence in fair condition, according to the report.

Charges are pending against the 50-year-old driver who hit the bicyclists, but authorities said alcohol and speed were not factors.

The driver allegedly hit the bicyclists from behind. The driver’s daughter told WRAL that she tried to avoid hitting the bicyclists.

“[They are] just four of the best people I’ve ever known, and four of the best cyclists I’ve ever known, too,” said Jerry Phelps, a friend of the bicyclists.
