Man killed in head-on collision in Winston-Salem identified

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — One person died in an accident in Winston-Salem on Friday evening.

The accident happened at 5:16 p.m. at University Parkway and Cherry Street, according to a news release from Winston-Salem police.

According to police, a 1997 Mercedes-Benz E420 made a left turn onto Cherry Street from southbound University Parkway into the path of a 2013 Ford Fusion.

The driver of the Mercedes-Benz, identified as 85-year-old Hawthorne Page, of Winston-Salem, died at the scene as a result of injuries sustained in the wreck.

The driver of the Ford, identified as 50-year-old Jerome Redford, of Winston-Salem, sustained minor injuries and was transported to an area medical center.

Winston-Salem police’s traffic unit is conducting interviews with witnesses and reconstructing the scene.
