The wind and rain caused problems across the Piedmont Tuesday morning, knocking down trees and power lines.

In Rockingham County, one of the hardest hit areas, a giant tree fell on a home.

Emergency responders in Madison had to rescue a woman and her dog in the dark when they became trapped in the home.

Duke Energy is reporting power outages in counties across the Piedmont.

The Duke Energy map shows that Rockingham County is among those hardest hit, with more than 5,000 customers without power.
