BURLINGTON, N.C. -- 400 tons of salt and 15,000 gallons of brine. The City of Burlington Streets Department Superintendent Blair Thompson says they are ready for whatever comes their way.

By 1 p.m. Friday, Thompson said crews had finished brining roads in Burlington.

Should the weather turn more severe, he said all staff is on standby to be prepared to work Sunday.

He said just as the crews were recovering from the last winter storm -- now they're bracing for another.

"It's tough back to back," Thompson said. "The last storm was very tough. It would not turn loose. We had to plow four times, when normally we can just plow once."
