CAROLINA BEACH, N.C. — Two men were rescued off Carolina Beach Tuesday after their boat overturned.

According to a release, watchstanders received a report around 11 p.m. Monday that two men were stranded on a 41-foot fishing boat that had ran aground in Snow’s Cut.

The men, 25 and 35, stayed on board and waited for high tide so the boat would begin floating again. But then, at 1:16 a.m. Tuesday, the Coast Gaurd was called in after the boat overturned and one of the men fell into the water.

Both men were rescued and taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center for hypothermia and back injuries, according to WECT. The two men were last reported in stable condition.

Some of the 150 gallons of diesel aboard the boat at the time of the incident may have spilled into the water.

The Coast Guard is investigating possible pollution.
