WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. – A Winston-Salem woman said she was driving with her child when someone from an unknown vehicle started shooting at her car.

Courtney Nicole Plater told police that it happened as she was driving on US 421 near Cloverdale Avenue on Sunday.

Plater said a white vehicle came behind her at a high speed and began to pass her.

She said the driver pulled out a handgun and fired three rounds, hitting her car as it passed.

Two of the three rounds hit the vehicle’s right rear bumper and rear quarter panel, according to police.

Police said a third shot struck and penetrated the rear passenger door. The projectile struck the victim’s child safety seat, passing just below where her child was seated.

Neither Plater nor her child were injured, according to police. Plater said the vehicle was last seen headed north on US 421 at a high speed.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with any information can call the Winston-Salem Police Department at (336) 727-2800.
