BURLINGTON, N.C. — A man faces a DWI charge after authorities said he crashed into a Burlington tobacco store and became trapped in his vehicle.

Carl Anthony Wilson, 44, of Fuquay Varina, faces charges in connection to a crash reported Friday afternoon at JR Cigars, according to Burlington police.

Police said Wilson drove a 2006 Ford Expedition into the building near the main entrance at 2589 Eric Lane shortly after 4 p.m.

No injuries were reported. The suspect was treated at the scene by Alamance County emergency workers and the Burlington firefighters.

Burlington police said Saturday morning that he was taken to Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro where he was still being evaluated.

About $10,000 of damage was reported to the building and about $15,000 of damage reported to the suspect’s vehicle. JR Tobacco stayed open for business following the crash.
