New Jersey ‘earthquake’ was actually sonic boom

HAMMONTON, N.J. — Mysterious shaking in New Jersey on Thursday afternoon sent Twitter users into a frenzy over concerns of an earthquake.

However, the U.S. Geological Survey confirmed that the shaking was actually the result of a sonic boom near Hammonton, N.J.

WABC-TV reports that the sonic boom was caused by a military aircraft from McGuire Air Force Base that broke the sound barrier.
