Latest hour-by-hour forecast of upcoming winter storm; Winter Storm Warning in effect at midnight

A winter storm with significant ice and snow is on the way.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for central North Carolina that will be in effect from 12 a.m. Friday until 6 p.m. Saturday.

Snow and sleet accumulations of 8 to 12 inches are expected over the Piedmont Triad region along with up to a quarter of an inch of ice, according to the NWS.

To the south and east of the immediate Triad region, 4 to 8 inches of snow and sleet are expected along with ice accumulations of between a quarter to a half inch.
