Siler City firefighter, EMT dies in the line of duty

SILER CITY, N.C. — A firefighter with the Town of Siler City died in the line of duty Tuesday morning, according to a release from Chief Scott Murphy.

Joshua Woods, 24, who is also an EMT, was responding to a cardiac arrest call around 1 a.m. when he lost control of his personal vehicle and went off the road.

His vehicle struck a tree and Woods died as a result of his injuries.

Woods leaves behind an expectant wife and two young sons.

The family will receive friends on Jan. 15 from 5 to 9 p.m. at First Missionary Baptist Church located at 914 Martin Luther King Blvd. in Siler City.The funeral will be held at the same church on Jan. 16 at 1 p.m.

According to a release, the public is welcome to attend the viewing and funeral, but the family has asked for privacy at the graveside.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to The Woods Widow and Children Fund, Fidelity Bank, 1426 E. 11th Street Siler City N.C. 27344 or to the First Missionary Baptist Church Junior Children’s Choir.
