Wife of Winston-Salem Police Department employee in hospital after accidental shooting

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C — The wife of a Winston-Salem Police Department employee is in the hospital after police say he accidentally shot her.

Winston-Salem police responded to 2305 Quinn Forest Way Tuesday at 7:19 p.m. after receiving a discharging firearms call.

Investigators said preliminary information indicated that Nikolaos Keefe Tish, who is a Winston-Salem Police Department recruit, was handling a personal weapon at his home when it went off and hit his wife.

Tish’s wife was taken to Baptist Hospital for treatment to a gunshot wound to the abdomen.

According to a release, Tish joined the department in August and is still in training.

There is no word on his wife’s condition.
