7-year-old girl killed in crash in Alamance County

ALAMANCE COUNTY, N.C. – A 7-year-old girl has died after a car crash in Alamance County on Christmas night, according to Master Highway Patrol Trooper Chris Knox.

The call reporting the wreck came in at about 8:46 p.m. Friday at NC Hwy 49 near Billy Holt Trail south of Graham, according to Knox.

The identity of the victim has not been released. The driver has been identified as 31-year-old Stephanie Flinchum.

The victim was in a vehicle headed north on Hwy 49 at a high rate of speed, according to officials.

The vehicle went off the road, struck a ditch and went airborne, striking several trees, according to highway patrol.

Officials said the 7-year-old was unrestrained in the backseat and ejected from the vehicle. She died from the injuries. A second child, who is 8, was taken to UNC Hospitals with serious injuries.

The driver was taken to the hospital with injuries that are currently unknown. The relationship between the driver and the children has not been released.

The cause of the crash is currently under investigation. No other vehicles were involved. The driver has not been charged.
