REIDSVILLE, N.C. — A Reidsville man who was wanted in connection to a fatal shooting turned himself in to the Rockingham County Magistrate Thursday morning.

Antonio Sherod Scales, 40, was charged with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill.

Scales is accused of shooting three people inside a home on the 800 block of Lindsey Street on Nov. 14, killing a mother of five.

The victim, Veronica Broadnax, of Reidsville, was in her 30s. She had five sons and a full life ahead of her.

Reidsville Police Lt. Wendell Neville said someone took all that away from her that November night.

“She was the mother of multiple children who are going to grow up without her and it’s just sad,” said Neville.

Neville said two other men were shot, but will recover from their injuries.

Scales is being held at the Rockingham County Jail without bond. His first court appearance is scheduled for Jan. 6, 2015.
