Jaxson Sonny Swain

WALNUT COVE, N.C. — The mother of Jaxson Sonny Swain, the 2-year-old boy who died of head injuries in August, said the bruises on his face weren’t caused by abuse, according to an investigative report from the medical examiner.

Jaxson, who was from Walnut Cove, was found unresponsive Aug. 16 in a bathtub at the Grubb Street home of Charles Thomas Stacks, 30, and Megin Elizabeth Stacks, 31.

Charles Stacks is charged with first-degree murder and intentional child abuse inflicting serious bodily injury in connection with Jaxson’s death.

Charles Stacks was caring for Jaxson the day the child’s injuries were reported, said Lt. Steve Tollie. Charles Stacks was a friend of Jaxson’s mother, Candace Swain.
