WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Seems to be as much a tradition at Christmas as eggnog and candy canes. Last minute Lucys looking for gifts on the fly.

At Hanes Mall, mother-daughter shopping duo Natalie and Kristi Ingram were out and about picking up some gifts and just enjoying their time. "She's actually living in Texas now, so I get to enjoy her now. We're shopping for my mom, maybe a gift card because it will compliment some other gifts. Merry Christmas to all!" they both chimed in as they took off for more shopping.

Some other fellas were a little closer to the vest about their mission.

"We're shopping for my wife and my daughter a little bit, but we can't share what we're looking for because we want it to be a surprise," laughed dad Gary Wilson and his son Hunter.

Shoppers darted up and down the escalators, veering away from the crowded spots, visited with Santa and loaded up with gifts. Stores at Hanes Mall close at 6 p.m.
