REIDSVILLE, N.C. — An investigation into unauthorized spending at Reidsville High School’s football program likely will continue into the new year even as more information is revealed.

Rockingham Schools Superintendent Rodney Shotwell said Monday that Reidsville officials spent more than $30,000 without following proper protocols.

“The invoices were originally around $33,000,” Shotwell said. “The money was spent on the kids for the football program.”

Shotwell has declined to name individuals who may have been involved, but Rockingham County Schools released a statement Thursday that said the district’s human resources department is investigating a budget deficit involving Reidsville High School’s athletic program after the school system learned “purchasing protocols” weren’t followed by individuals at the school and its service provider.
