ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, N.C. — Rockingham County School officials are investigating financial issues involving the storied football program at Reidsville High even as the school’s coach is asking the community to donate money.

Superintendent Rodney Shotwell confirmed Wednesday that the school system is involved in an investigation but wouldn’t elaborate.

“We are investigating claims that have been brought to my attention, but I won’t specify which school,” Shotwell said.

But the investigation appears to focus on money spent for team equipment at Reidsville and whether that expenditure was approved.
