GREENSBORO, N.C. — A man arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of a 72-year-old woman and her dog is now facing an additional charge.

Jeffrey Bernard Cobb, 29, of 314 Lawrence St., was charged Wednesday with possession of a firearm by a felon.

Cobb previously was charged with first-degree murder, attempted robbery with a dangerous weapon and first-degree burglary. The charges are in connection to the death of Doris Leach, who was shot in her home at 1100 Huffine Mill Road about 10:40 p.m. on Sept. 1.

Capt. Mike Richey said Cobb’s additional charge does not mean police are willing to say he is the one who shot Leach because four other people face charges in the shooting.
