WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Witness video obtained by FOX8 shows the scene where Travis Page died in police custody Wednesday night.

Officers responded to a call about a discharged firearm at 4404 Old Rural Hall Road just before 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.

Upon arrival, officers tried to detain a suspect, later identified as 31-year-old Travis Nevelle Page, who matched the description provided by the person who reported the incident.

Police said Page resisted arrest and one of the officers pepper sprayed him before placing him in handcuffs. Shortly after being handcuffed, Page became unresponsive and officers began life-saving efforts.

In the video, witness Tameka McLean can be heard saying she doesn't believe Page did anything wrong as she filmed CPR being performed on him.

McLean told FOX8's Michael Hennessey the incident happened in front of her house and she was filming from her yard.

While filming the incident, McLean tells an officer that while she didn't know Page's name, she knew of him and said he never bothered anyone. She is later heard questioning what police did to him.

Forsyth County Emergency Medical Services responded to the scene and took Page to Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

According to the Winston-Salem Police Department, a handgun and a controlled substance were found on Page before he was taken to the hospital.

The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation was called in to conduct a death investigation.

Corporal Robert Fenimore, Officer Christopher Doub, Officer Austin Conrad and Officer Jacob Tuttle were all placed on administrative duty, which is standard procedure.
