SAN ANTONIO, Texas – A monkey who escaped a North Carolina family is getting a new home in Texas.
KABB reported that Carter the monkey will soon find a permanent home at the Primarily Primates Primate Sanctuary in San Antonio, Texas.
Carter was being held by the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department’s animal control division after escaping from his cage in the Carolina Medical Center and biting a hospital employee.
Carter’s owner recently appeared in court and agreed to give ownership of the monkey over to the sanctuary in Texas in exchange for having charges dropped in the biting incident.
“Even though he can become a handful, everybody has really gotten attached to him,” said Melissa Knicely with animal control, according to WBTV. “All of us were really excited that this day has come, but really kind of sad, a little bit, at the same time.”
